7. Blue Heron: Paragraphs 1-7 (Guided Reading and Vocabulary)
In this lesson the students will read to gather basic information and the story and work with the vocabulary.
Lesson Materials
Specific Curriculum Outcomes:
1. Predict the plot of the story the picture and story title
2. Read silently to locate vocabulary words
3. Use context clues or dictionaries (if necessary) to define vocabulary
4. Use vocabulary words in oral and written sentences

Starting Activity:Â Â Predict what the story is about using the pictures as well as the title
Â
Developmental Activity: Read the story silently locating vocabulary words. Use context clues to derive the meanings of the words. (dictionaries may be used if necessary) Use the words to make oral sentences.

Closing Activity:Â Recap the main events of the story. Recall the vocabulary words
Â
Seat Activity:Â Â Choose any 5 words and use each in a written sentence which brings out the meaning
Â
Possible Vocabulary:  gazed, amiss, agitated, disturbed, threatened, placid, struggled ( you may add your own)
